Book Review: Educated

Author: Tara Westover

5/5 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

📚

Educated by Tara Westover was a 5 star read for me! I’ll admit friends, I took this book at a SLOW pace. I started it in late 2018 and alternate between the audio and kindle version of the book. I took my time because Westover’s story is hard, traumatic, and inspiring. I didn’t want to rush through it. I wanted to think about education’s own place in my life and how easily it can be to take it for granted (something I hope I will never do). Westover’s story will make you laugh and cry. I found myself scared for her and cheering her on.

📚

If you are unfamiliar with Educated, the memoir tells the story of Westover’s childhood being brought up by survivalist parents. She labored in her dad’s junkyard and worked with her mom, a midwife and herbalist. She had several siblings, one which was abusive to her. Westover did not step into a classroom until the age of 17. She then started an education journey but also a journey to find herself and what she believed outside of her parents’ extremist views.

📚

This is a book that will stay with you long after you read it and will challenge you to think differently. This is the mark of a 5⭐️ read for me.
