Book Review: Fear of Missing Out by Kate McGovern

BOOK REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Stars

Synopsis: Everyone has a fear of missing out on something―a party, a basketball game, a hangout after school. But what if it’s life that you’ll be missing out on?

When Astrid learns that her cancer has returned, she hears about a radical technology called cryopreservation that may allow her to have her body frozen until a future time when―and if―a cure is available. With her boyfriend, Mohit, and her best friend, Chloe, Astrid goes on a road trip in search of that possibility. To see if it’s real. To see if it’s worth it. For fear of missing out on everything.

My take—Fear of Missing Out by Kate McGovern is a story of loss, anticipated grief, family, friendship, and how we make meaning of things when life gets really tough. This book simultaneously drew me and broke my heart. It was a tear-jerker and one of those books that had me asking “what would I do in Astrid’s position?” This novel is powerful, heart-wrenching, and stays with you long after the last page.

I really enjoyed McGovern’s crisp writing style and how the chapters were laid out. Fans of Fault in Our Stars, A Walk to Remember, and Five Feet Apart will most likely enjoy this book. Thank you to Jenn @livereadandprosper for the book recommendation!
