Mini synopsis: Set in London during a legendary heatwave, the Riordan family matriarch Gretta wakes up to find that her husband of forty years has vanished without a trace. She immediately calls upon her 3 adult children who begrudgingly join together to help find their father. Was his disappearance all by design? Can years-long family grudges be set aside in a time of crisis? Read to find out.
My thoughts: This book is a beautifully written story about a family in crisis. O’Farrell’s writing is multi-layered and character driven. She writes in a way that will have you wanting to sit down with each character for a cup of coffee. It reminded me of Ann Patchett’s The Dutch House in the best way possible. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
