My Synopsis: For main character Susan Green, life functions best when orderly, emotionless, and on a schedule. She has a tidy flat, a job she does well at, an “arrangement” with a man that suits her needs, and a collection of cacti plants she cares for each day. Unfortunately for Susan, life is about to throw her some major curveballs. In a very short time span, she learns she has lost her mother and that she is about to become a mom. Add to that confrontation with her brother, family drama, and an unlikely attraction…it is just about enough uncertainty to make Susan’s head-spin!

My review: I listened to this book on audio and I really enjoyed the narrator. What I liked most about this book was watching Susan and her character development. She transitions from rigid and inflexible to warm and adaptable. I loved watching her grow and surprise herself. I loved watching her walls come down and growing to like her as a character! I loved author Sarah Haywood’s writing style and her character development receives an A+ from me!

If you enjoy a complicated family story, you will also enjoy this book. There are plausible twists and turns that I did not see coming. Just when I thought I had chosen a “side,” a new twist popped up and dismantled what I thought I believed.

I gave this book 4 stars. Fans of Eleanor Oliphant, fans of Stella’s character in the Kiss Quotient, and lovers of a “late bloomer” story might enjoy this book.
